We live in a world where exploring the unexplained is now confined by science. For those who choose an unconventional path, social incarceration and emotional imprisonment awaits anyone willing to stand so bold. So rather than seeking answers, people began picking one from a book or a box. I have not dreamed of, nor searched for heroes, for I have always lived among them. I have not pretended to be another nor prayed for anything that I have obtained. Yet, somehow I have acquired them all.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you don’t sleep for days and days. It’s equally incredible what a lost soul is truly capable of. It felt like the end of my life and there were so many things I needed to say before I go. In many cases, it also kept me from pulling the trigger too soon. This is the story of a life that was forever changed in the blink of an eye, so here is your opportunity to gaze into the sorrow of the truly broken-hearted. This was it – my last shot. Literally.

Early in my career, I had someone  suggest I include an explanation at the beginning of each poem to put the words into context for the reader. Little did I know how much that decision would come to define my work. People either love or hate the preludes. It's really just that simple. Regardless of which person you are, this collection is for you. You will find some of them are very disturbing, and you might even learn a few things about me that you never wanted to hear.

This is the tale of a very special place between big, brown, beautiful eyes and a captivating smile, somewhere between infectious laughter and longing sighs. If you are going to love again, completely and wholeheartedly, you must find someone who has both a beautiful soul and an extraordinary moral compass. This is the heartbreaking, triumphant, beautiful story of two kids who met in junior high school. A story of love, and loss, and love again, that would become the greatest story ever told.

It's hard to believe I've been writing now for 35 years. While that doesn’t make me an expert on explaining emotions, it does suggest a dedication to something that is incredibly meaningful to me. There were times I quit writing altogether, but something always brought me back to it. I guess the one thing I've learned that will never change is my passion for writing, my desire to learn from those around me, and my aspiration to spread empathy to anyone who is willing to listen, and I thank you.

Having grown up in the heartland of America, the admiration I have for the memories of my youth are forever cherished in the images I carry with me in the back of my mind. I've been fortunate to travel all over the world, and I've seen some amazing things, but the images of home will always warm my heart. Some people think those days of Americana is a fading memory, but she is still out there, waiting to welcome you home, with open arms. You just have to know where to look for her.
